Soup & Meet with Campus Ministry begins Wednesday

At 5 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month Finlandia University Campus Ministry will be hosting Soup & Meet at Chapel of St. Matthew. This is a great opportunity to gather with your peers at the university, as well as enjoy delicious soup and refreshments. Youakim introduced as Assistant Professor of Sociology at Finlandia

Finlandia University is proud to introduce Dr. Claudia Youakim, a University of Florida graduate, as Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning this semester.

“Sociology allows us to deepen our thought process,” said Dr. Youakim. “It’s a subject that allows students to take a look outside of themselves. To examine their surroundings and their relationship to a broader societal context.”

Michael Bond hired as Sports Information Director at Finlandia University

Finlandia University has hired Michael Bond to the role of Sports Information Director. Bond has 26 years of experiences in the sports management field, including most recently helping out at University of Detroit Mercy and Concordia University Ann Arbor.

Bourdage hired as assistant professor of communication

Finlandia University’s Suomi College of Arts & Sciences has hired Dr. Monique Bourdage as Assistant Professor of Communication.

Bourdage received her Ph.D. from the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan. She will be teaching a variety of communication and media courses at FinnU beginning during the Fall 2016 semester.

Maki Library update heading into 2016-17

The Sulo and Aileen Maki Library has new hours of operation for the 2016-17 academic year.

Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The library will be open the weekend before Labor day, with Sunday hours being 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tutors will be available in the library from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Regan Antila will be tutoring on Tuesdays for English and psychology.

Shawn Wickersheim Memorial Fund reaches 70 percent of goal

More than $7,000 raised from friends, teammates and family

Midway through July friends and family of the late Shawn Wickersheim came together to honor his memory with the creation of the Shawn Wickersheim Memorial Fund. Now, after just over four weeks of seeking donations, the fund is over 70 percent toward its goal of $10,000.

Blue Line Club 2016 Golf Outing is September 4

The Finlandia Blue Line Club Golf Outing is Sunday, September 4 at the Calumet Golf Course.

This annual event features a three-man scramble and is open to the public. Registration is $120 per three-person team or $40 per player. All proceeds help support the men’s varsity, men’s junior varsity, and women’s hockey programs at FinnU.

Winter 2017 study abroad scholarship available through CCSA

The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad Storyteller Scholarship encourages student participation in CCSA programs by offering a means for students to tell their own CCSA stories.

The awardee is expected to provide CCSA quality writing and/or imagery. The deliverable product must be appropriate for the CCSA web site, although the student may propose alternative formats such as a blog or a YouTube project.
