FinnU Overview Episode 2: What’s there to do in Hancock, anyway?

In their second episode, FinnU Overview hosts and International School of Business students Jakob Vettori (Marketing) and Joe Watson (Accounting) make the case for staying in the Keweenaw over the summer. The pair also highlighted Finlandia Hall as the ‘Building of the Week’ and talked about the amenities it provides students, as well as #CrushCOVID Week, happening now.

COVID-19 Updates on Quarantine, Testing, Food Assistance for Students

Quarantine

Finlandia University, in cooperation with MDHHS recommendations, will begin instituting a 14-day quarantine for close contacts of COVID-19 positive individuals. This is an increase from the previous recommendation of 10 days. The full release from MDHSS is below:

Finlandia signs articulation agreement with Concordia Wisconsin School of Pharmacy

A new agreement between Concordia University Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy and Finlandia University gives students the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree and a CUW PharmD degree, and save a year of studies in the process.

FinnU to Host #CrushCOVID Week

Finlandia University will be hosting #CrushCOVIDWeek on campus from April 5-9 in the hopes of getting more students, faculty, and staff signed up for COVID-19 vaccinations.

Student Spotlight: Valerie Helminen, Graphic Design

Sophomore Valerie Helminen, a graphic design major from Calumet, Mich. couldn’t seem to find the right fit when it came to colleges. Having previously attended Michigan Tech and four other schools, Helminen was looking for her next move. FAFSA deadline extended to May 1 for MI aid

Students who want to be given priority consideration for state of Michigan financial aid programs now have some extra time to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.

Finlandia Announces Hybrid In-Person Commencement on April 29

Finlandia University’s 2021 Spring Commencement will take place on Thursday, April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Hirvonen Health Sciences Building Auditorium. As a safety precaution against the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be in-person, but will be limited to graduating students, honor recipients and Finlandia faculty. The event will be live-streamed and recorded for family viewing.

Finlandia University is excited to announce the winners of the Embrace Your Sisu Scholarship competition. 14 participants submitted their finished lion coloring page and two winners were selected. The People’s Choice Winner with 2,552 votes was Emily Nelson from Ishpeming, MI, who will be entering Finlandia in the fall of 2021.
