Finnish American Heritage Center reopening June 1

The Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) will reopen to the general public on June 1, 2021 under the following guidelines:

Finlandia, NMU Discuss Partnership Opportunities

HANCOCK, Mich. – Two Upper Peninsula of Michigan universities, Finlandia University in Hancock and Northern Michigan University in Marquette, have launched a joint initiative to explore high-level collaborations between the schools.

NMU President Fritz Erickson and FinnU President Philip Johnson, in conjunction with their respective governing boards, are announcing that the two institutions have created a task force to develop proposals for possible partnerships and collaborations of programs, university operations and student opportunities.

Finlandia Alumni Board hosting Giving Day 2021 to raise money for textbook awards

The Finlandia Alumni Board is hosting their third Giving Day on June 16, 2021. The day is dedicated to raising money to help students pay for textbooks and will feature Facebook and social media announcements, information on textbook costs, and conversations with past textbook award winners and FAB members!

Santeri Seppinen named Finlandia International School of Business Outstanding Senior

Finlandia University’s International School of Business has named Santeri Seppinen its Outstanding Senior in Business for the academic year 2020-21. Seppinen, an International Business major from Turku, Finland, was given this honor based on his overall academic record, including a 3.83 GPA, as well as his achievements outside of the classroom.

Irina Sergeyeva Named 2021 Board of Trustees Rising Star Faculty Award Recipient

The Board of Trustees honored Irina Sergeyeva with the 2021 Rising Star Faculty Award at Finlandia’s Spring Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, April 29. 

Sergeyeva serves as Finlandia’s RN to BSN Program Coordinator and now Associate Professor of Nursing. She joined the university in August 2015 with a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix.

106 named to FinnU Dean’s & Honors List for Spring 2021

Finlandia University is proud to announce its Spring 2021 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 106 students earned honors, including 79 who earned Dean’s List honors for having a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

To be eligible for either list students must have completed 12 or more credits and had no grade below a “C.” Dean’s List students earned a GPA of 3.75 or above, while Honors List students had a GPA between 3.50 and 3.749. Academic Achievement Committee Announces 2021 Honors & Awards Recipients

In a normal year, Finlandia’s Academic Achievement Committee hosts the Honors & Awards Banquet for students who have been selected to receive endowed scholarships and honors. This year, the committee opted to honor these students during Finlandia’s hybrid commencement ceremony held on Thursday, April 29. Alpha Lambda Delta Inducts 14 Students in Virtual Ceremony

On March 26, 2021, 14 new members were inducted into Finlandia’s Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) chapter. The ALD is a National Honor Society for First-Year Success and to become a member, students must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher in their first semester.
