Deadline to apply for $20,000 competitive art scholarship at Finlandia is May 3

Finlandia University is accepting applications for the $20,000 Dave and Elsa Brule Scholarship now through May 3. This is a competitive scholarship for incoming students interested in studying art and design in Finlandia’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD). Students can apply online at finlandia.edu/artscholarship.

Kotila hosting talk on self publishing on May 5

 

The Copper Country Community Arts Center is hosting a Coffee Talk with Finlandia University alumna and artist Pamela Kotilla on Saturday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kotilla, a comic creator and artist will share her personal experiences with crowdfunding and self-publishing. She will focus heavily how to launch a Kickstarter campaign, find a printer and prepare work for print.

Senior art students Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore discuss upcoming Diploma Works Exhibition

Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the annual Diploma Works Exhibition. Both students are graduating from the International School for Art + Design (ISAD). The exhibition highlights work from the graduating class. This year 10 seniors will have work on display.

Geri Hawley explains why Physical Therapist Assistant is a great degree option

Geri Hawley, an instructor in the Physical Therapists Assistant (PTA) program, stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss the PTA degree offered at Finlandia. “We are designed to prepare students to go out into the clinical field and work with patients under a physical therapist to be able to treat patients and get them better in any pathology they have,” stated Hawley. Alumni Update: Pakkala accepts new role at Aspirus Keweenaw

Finlandia University nursing alum Clint Pakkala recently landed a job at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium. He’ll be working in the hospital’s orthopedic department. Following earning his degree at FinnU, the Hancock native earned his Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing.

Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Dr. Emily Geiger stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the biology degree offered at FinnU. This is Dr. Geiger’s second year of teaching at Finlandia. Upon her arrival, both science labs had been newly renovated, thanks to Portage Health System. With the renovations, Dr. Geiger mentioned that students now have their own individual work spaces, and more classes can be offered, like organic chemistry, due to the upgraded equipment.
