Alumni Spotlight: Kelly Aho, BSN

Kelly Aho dreamed of advancing her career through the online RN-BSN program. After graduating in December 2017, she earned a promotion.

 

When Kelly Aho (’94, ’17) first came to Suomi College in the 1990s, she wanted to be a teacher.

She graduated as an RN instead.

Finlandia mourns loss of former president, Robert Ubbelohde

Finlandia University is saddened to announce the passing of former university president, Robert Ubbelohde.

Ubbelohde joined Finlandia, then Suomi College, in 1988 as the Dean of Faculty. Shortly after, he was appointed to President and Professor of Philosophy until his retirement in 2007. Ubbelohde was instrumental in converting Suomi College into Finlandia University, a baccalaureate degree granting institution.

Alissa Pietila never thought she’d be working for a television station, let alone leading her own segment on the five o’clock news.

Pietila, a 2014 Finlandia University alumna, graduated with a bachelor’s in communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in psychology. Finnish student teacher visits from Hei Suomi Program in South Range

To top off season two, Finlandia Fridays was visited by Nikki Lishinski and Tuuli Savelainen. Savelainen is participating in the Hei Suomi program. The program brings Finnish teachers into the schools in South Range so the students are able to experience a different culture.

Native New Zealander Rebecca Lilly joined Finlandia Fridays this week. Hailing from the small town of Gore, Lilly is studying biology, while also playing for the women’s hockey team at FinnU. Lilly has been in North America since the age of 15 to play hockey, playing in multiple places in Canada. Being able to continue playing hockey was a primary reason Lilly choose Finlandia. Dr. William Knoblauch wins Board of Trustees Distinguished Faculty Award

Dr. William Knoblauch was honored as the Board of Trustees Distinguished Faculty Award recipient at the 2018 Commencement on Sunday, April 29.

Knoblauch, an assistant professor of history, joined Finlandia in 2012. He teaches 17 courses including History of Rock & Roll, Energy and World Power, and Rise of American Capitalism. He also chairs the History department.

Get in the Delorean, We’re Going to the Past

This year Student Senate Vice President, Kaylor Holmstrom, was inspired to visit Finlandia’s past by way of some old photographs.
