Abigail Tembreull and Elle Rowe discuss Young Women’s Caucus for Art

April 6, 2018

Current President of the Young Women’s Caucus for Art Abigail Tembreull and soon-to-be President Elle Rowe stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the future of the club. The Young Women’s Caucus for Art is a club that primarily works towards promoting women in the art world, but don’t let the name fool you, the club is open to all genders.Elle Rowen and Abigail Tembreull

Elle Rowe is a sophomore in the Marketing and Graphic Design program. She is from Hancock, and a Hancock Award recipient. Her reason behind joining the Caucus was to be more involved with the on-campus experience. Rowe stated that she has enjoyed her time so far with the group, and is excited about the many opportunities that come with being a part of the Caucus.

Abigail Tembreull is a senior in the Art and Design program with a concentration in Intermedia. Originally from L’Anse, Tembreull attended Hancock Central High School and was also a recipient of the Hancock Award. Her art will be on display starting April 28 at the diploma works show, which will showcase work from the graduating seniors.  Tembreull’s art is a “personal project about identity, and is kind of related to what the Young Women’s Caucus focuses on with a look at feminism, femininity and Catholicism, and how they interrelate.”

One of the opportunities that is associated with the Caucus is attending the national conference. This past year the group went to Los Angeles, and next year will be heading to New York. With her experience in the Caucus, Tembreull stated the conferences are a great way to network and see modern theories in feminist thought. Rowe mentioned that her time is Los Angeles was enjoyable, especially escaping the norm by touring numerous galleries.
