Gallery announces schedule of 31st Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University Gallery will present the 31st Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition featuring the artwork of Natalie Salminen Rude at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC), Hancock from December 4, 2021 to February 4, 2022.

An opening Zoom reception will be held on Thursday, December 9th at 7pm EST with meeting info available below.

North Wind Books to celebrate 30th Anniversary with sales on Dec. 2 & 3

On the shores of Lake Superior in 1991, Patricia Van Pelt opened the Museum Shop at The Eagle Harbor Lighthouse.  Patricia’s shop would eventually outgrow the building space.  She would relocate the shop to her home in Eagle Harbor and rename it North Wind Books.

Giving Tuesday starts now! Today we make a difference

At Finlandia, Giving Tuesday means giving back to students. Today, all donations received go directly toward Finlandia’s annual scholarship programs to help provide affordable, quality higher education to all. Currently, 100% of all domestic full-time Finlandia students receive aid.

Finlandia announce changes to 125th Anniversary celebration schedule

Due to the sharp rise in community spread of the coronavirus in Houghton County, Finlandia’s 125th Anniversary celebrations scheduled for December 3-5 are being modified.  

The in-person events scheduled for Sunday, December 5 will take place as scheduled:  

10:30 a.m. Worship Service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hancock. 1:00 p.m. Finnish Independence Day Program at Finlandia University Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock.

Both events on Sunday will require masks and sign in; no refreshments will be offered.

Donate toward student scholarships this Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30

On November 30, Finlandia University will be raising money for student scholarships for Giving Tuesday. Proceeds raised on Giving Tuesday play an important role in giving FinnU students financial support and quality academic opportunities.

Last year, Finlandia’s Giving Tuesday campaign raised over $30,087 in 24 hours with a donor match. All donations received last year went toward FinnU’s annual scholarship programs to help keep FinnU affordable for current and future students.

Student Spotlight: Daniel Zuchak, Liberal Studies

Daniel Zuchak, from Rittman, Ohio, transferred to Finlandia University to get his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and play for the Men’s Basketball team. One of the main reasons Zuchak chose Liberal Studies as his major is because it allows him to learn about various subjects and become a more well-rounded individual.
