Board of Trustees Scholarship – $7,500
High school cumulative GPA of 3.5. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 3.25 at Finlandia University.
President’s Scholarship – $5,500
High school cumulative GPA of 3.25. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 3.00 at Finlandia University.
Deans Scholarship – $3,500
High school cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 2.75 at Finlandia University.

These unique scholarship opportunities make a high-quality education in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula even more affordable. All scholarships amount are per academic year.
Lake Effect Scholarship
New to Fall 2021, the Lake Effect Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship that allows eligible commuting and on-campus living students to enjoy the benefits of cost-sharing education. Meaning, commuting students will have tuition reduced to $2,500 per year, earning their full Bachelor’s degree for $10,000. The $2,500 per year cost-share can also be covered by federal loans, meaning no out-of-pocket cost. Earn your degree now and pay later!
On-campus housing students are also eligible to receive the benefits of cost-sharing education. With tuition reduced to $2,500 per year, they will have additional housing costs, which can also be covered by federal loans. The Lake Effect Scholarship aligns with Finlandia’s mission of providing affordable higher education to all.

Rise Together Scholarship – Full Free Tuition
The Rise Together Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that, when combined with federal and state scholarships and grants, covers a student’s entire tuition costs and aligns with Finlandia’s mission of providing affordable higher education to all. The Rise Together Scholarship can be applied to the first two years of study at Finlandia. After the completion of 56 credit hours and/or an associates degree, students can easily transfer into a bachelor’s degree program and become eligible for the $10,000 Finnish Strong Scholarship, which can be renewed on an annual basis. Students must meet all criteria to be eligible for the Rise Together Scholarship. This scholarship is renewable, but students are not eligible to receive additional institutional scholarships. Finnish Strong Transfer Scholarship – $10,000
New incoming transfer students with at least a 2.0 grade point average are eligible for this. The $10,000 Finnish Strong Transfer Scholarship to incoming transfer students. This is part of an institutional mission to become the most transfer-friendly institution in the Midwest. Below are a set of frequently asked questions regarding this tuition initiative. U.P. Commitment Scholarship – $4,000
All new incoming students who graduated from a U.P. high school with at least a 2.25 grade point average are eligible for this.
We’re proud to call the Upper Peninsula of Michigan home, and have a passion for welcoming our fellow Yoopers to campus, which is why we’re introducing the $4,000 U.P. Commitment Scholarship. To be eligible, students need to have earned at least a 2.25 cumulative high school GPA, have graduated from a U.P. high school. Students will be able to retain this for all four years by maintaining a 2.25 GPA, full-time status and good social standing.
To earn this scholarship, students simply need to talk with their Finlandia University admissions officer. The scholarship will be paid out $2,000 per semester for up to eight semesters. Students earning the Hancock Award are not eligible to receive this scholarship. This scholarship is only available to new students beginning during or after the fall 2019 Semester. Western Great Lakes Scholarship – Up to $4,000
All new degree-seeking incoming first-year students who are residents of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois or Minnesota with at least a 2.25 GPA are eligible for this needs-based scholarship. Students may be able to retain this scholarship for all four years by maintaining a 2.25 GPA, full-time status and good social standing. Visiting Scholarship – $1,000
This award is a $1,000 scholarship ($500/year for two years) to those who visit the university (virtual or in-person) by August 1, 2022. This scholarship is available to new incoming full-time students in good standing at the University entering Fall 2022. To receive this award visits must be scheduled through the admissions office.
Service Scholarship – $2,000
Core to Finlandia’s mission is the idea of service. This is open to new, incoming non-Upper Peninsula residents with at least a 2.25 grade point average.
Finlandia University is a learning community dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service. To showcase this, Finlandia University is offering incoming students the opportunity to earn a $2,000 scholarship for performing community service. To be eligible, students need to have earned at least a 2.25 cumulative high school GPA. The scholarship will be renewable each semester for four years by maintaining a 2.25 GPA, maintaining full-time status, keeping good social standing and volunteering at least eight hours per semester.
The scholarship will be paid out $1,000 per semester for up to eight semesters. Students earning the U.P. Commitment Scholarship or Hancock Award are not eligible to receive this scholarship. This scholarship is only available to new students. Other stipulations may apply, please contact our financial aid staff with any questions.
Ambassador Scholarship – $1,500
Based on academic record, on-campus housing, limited to one student per state.
Northern Neighbors Scholarship – $2,000
All new international students from Canada residing on campus are eligible, beginning fall 2022 semester. This scholarship stacks with all other scholarships Canadian students are eligible for.
Esports Scholarship – $1,000 – $2,000
Interested in Esports? Both competitors and production roles for our varsity teams are eligible for a renewable $1,000 or $2,000 scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to select students that meet the following:

At least two family members enrolled full-time from one family. Matches up to $1,000 pledged by a church. Available to students whose parent, grandparent or sibling graduated from Finlandia University. These scholarships require an additional application and could be combined with other institutional and entrance scholarships listed above. They will be posted here as they become available. Each scholarship and the guidelines/eligibility restrictions of that scholarship are set by that private scholarship organization/company.
