North Wind Books to celebrate 30th Anniversary with sales on Dec. 2 & 3

November 30, 2021

North Wind BooksOn the shores of Lake Superior in 1991, Patricia Van Pelt opened the Museum Shop at The Eagle Harbor Lighthouse.  Patricia’s shop would eventually outgrow the building space.  She would relocate the shop to her home in Eagle Harbor and rename it North Wind Books.

Locals and visitors alike sought out her bookshop known for the exquisite collections of local history, local authors and nature titles.  Customers would return summer after summer and still, to this day, they reminisce about browsing the Eagle Harbor location.  Patricia nurtured her little shop with her love of books taking great care in growing North Wind Books into a thriving business.

In 1999, Finlandia University became the new owner and welcomed North Wind Books to Hancock.  As booksellers, we’ve continued to carry on Patricia’s legacy and have remained a Midwest Independent Bookseller for 30 years.  We continue to feature the bestselling titles and authors in the midwest.  Our expansive book collection includes Finnish, local, children’s, fiction, nonfiction, history, nature and cooking titles.

The bookstore is also the home to Finlandia University and Suomi College apparel and gifts.

If you are seeking a sweet treat for yourself or a friend, stop in and find Finnish chocolates and candies as well as Finnish coffee & tea selections.  Did you know North Wind Books also carries Men’s and Women’s healthcare uniforms?  North Wind Books is a university bookstore and so much more.

North Wind Books is thrilled to celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a 2-day event on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 10 am – 7 pm and Friday, Dec. 3 from 10 am – 5:30 pm.  There will be special store discounts and a chance to register for prizes including a chance to win free books for a year!

This anniversary event will be a chance to thank the loyal customers who have supported North Wind Books throughout its long history.
