Support our students this Giving Tuesday

November 26, 2021

Giving Tuesday is only days away!giving tuesday

Jordan Shawhan joins this week’s host Haley Goodreau to talk about the special day of giving dedicated to raising money for student scholarships. Shawhan and Goodreau discuss what to expect from Giving Tuesday as well as the life-long meaningful impact these donations have on FinnU student lives.

“All the money raised is going directly toward student scholarships. Those are need-based scholarships, we have a whole list of scholarships that money goes to on our website,” Shawhan said. “Last year, in 2020-2021, Finlandia awarded 3.2 million dollars in financial aid to our students, which I think is an incredible figure being a private school.”

Finlandia’s Facebook page will officially kick-off Giving Tuesday on November 30 at 7:45 a.m. Student and alumni scholarship stories will be shared throughout the day on Facebook and at finlandia.edu/givingtuesday.

“It’s super heartfelt, I mean, a lot of them really wouldn’t be able to pursue an academic opportunity like this if it wasn’t for scholarship opportunities,” Goodreau said. “That’s one of the greatest myths about a private university is that it’s not affordable, where in reality we have a lot of financial opportunities for students and Giving Tuesday really is a big part of that.”

FinnU will again be participating in Facebook’s Giving Tuesday program. This means Facebook will match the first $8 million donated that day.

Giving Tuesday takes place on November 30 this year. FinnU will accept donations at any point leading up to and on that day.
