Student Spotlight: Daniel Zuchak, Liberal Studies

November 15, 2021

Daniel Zuchak, from Rittman, Ohio, transferred to Finlandia University to get his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and play for the Men’s Basketball team. One of the main reasons Zuchak chose Liberal Studies as his major is because it allows him to learn about various subjects and become a more well-rounded individual.

“I have gotten to take courses ranging from business, sports management, religion and psychology. It is fun getting to learn about different things,” said Zuchak.

As a transfer student, Zuchak has enjoyed his time immersing himself in the Finlandia community and getting to know faculty, staff and peers.

“Transferring to Finlandia was a great transition for me. Working with admissions was super easy and helpful and the entire community was very welcoming. My experience as a transfer student has been awesome.”

On campus, Zuchak stays busy as a student ambassador while also training and practicing with his team.

“As a part of my student ambassador position; I assist the athletic department and the marketing department with the Finlandia athletics’ social media accounts,” said Zuchak. “It [the student ambassador program] provides me with great experiences that I can use in my future profession.”

Some of Zuchak’s highlights on campus so far include the Sports Communication and Public Relations classes with Professor Nordstrom, playing at a higher level in basketball while being a student athlete and enjoying the scenery found in the Keweenaw. Zuchak is on course to graduate in the Spring of 2022 and stated that he’s found FinnU to be a great place to focus on himself and experience a great community feel with an affordable cost.
