Renee O’Neill has joined the Hirvonen College of Health Sciences faculty as an Assistant Professor of Nursing. O’Neill earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Webster University in St. Louis and her Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in midwifery from Frontier Nursing University. This fall, Finlandia University’s overall enrollment grew by six percent with the on-campus student population increasing by nine percent. This full-time-equivalent growth brought 25 more students to campus than in fall 2020, giving Finlandia an enrollment of 430. Finlandia University has recently hired Melanie Thurmond as its College of Health Sciences Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program Director and Assistant Instructor.
Thurmond (’06) attained an associate’s degree from Finlandia’s PTA program and a bachelor’s degree from DeVry University in Finance. Applications are now being accepted for the Portage Health Foundation Scholarship opportunity to Finlandia University students studying healthcare and coming from Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga or Ontonagon counties. The scholarship can be awarded to the same person for up to four years.
The application deadline is July 16, 2021. This scholarship is open to returning and incoming FinnU students.
The Board of Trustees honored Irina Sergeyeva with the 2021 Rising Star Faculty Award at Finlandia’s Spring Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, April 29.
Sergeyeva serves as Finlandia’s RN to BSN Program Coordinator and now Associate Professor of Nursing. She joined the university in August 2015 with a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix.
