Dowling (’10) joins as PTA Instructor for College of Health Sciences

September 30, 2021

Alumna Sami Dowling (‘10)  joined Finlandia’s Hirvonen College of Health Sciences this fall as an instructor for the university’s Physical Therapist Assistant program. Dowling has 11 years of licensed clinical experience and many more years of observation.

“Being able to come back and work at the institute that gave me so much as a student is such a powerful feeling. I feel like I now get to give back to the University and new students. I bring knowledge and excitement from my years of experience to my classroom and to the campus,” said Dowling.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation from Grand Valley State University with an emphasis on mental health, Dowling interned at Inner Harbour Youth Villages in Georgia, a psychiatric facility that emphasizes outdoor experiences to aid in the treatment of trauma and mental health. She is also a Stretch Specialist at Reach Bodywork Studio out of Ann Arbor, MI during the summer months and holidays.

When Dowling is not teaching Pre-PTA and PTA classes, you can find her spending time with her husband, dog, family and friends. You will find her hiking, camping, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, traveling and trying any new activities that people suggest to her!

Sami Dowling can be found at the Hirvonen Building in Office H-302D and reached via email at sami.dowling@finlandia.edu.
