Finlandia rolls out podcast network with Digital Media Specialist Briana Gorman

Finlandia Fridays officially kicks off season three this week with guest Briana Gorman. With some new set pieces, equipment and move to 99.3 The Lift, the official station of Finlandia University athletics, the staff is anticipating this to be the best season yet.

Finnish student teacher visits from Hei Suomi Program in South Range

To top off season two, Finlandia Fridays was visited by Nikki Lishinski and Tuuli Savelainen. Savelainen is participating in the Hei Suomi program. The program brings Finnish teachers into the schools in South Range so the students are able to experience a different culture.

Globetrotting hockey player Rebecca Lilly of New Zealand talks about her times abroad and at Finlandia

Native New Zealander Rebecca Lilly joined Finlandia Fridays this week. Hailing from the small town of Gore, Lilly is studying biology, while also playing for the women’s hockey team at FinnU. Lilly has been in North America since the age of 15 to play hockey, playing in multiple places in Canada. Being able to continue playing hockey was a primary reason Lilly choose Finlandia. As the school year winds down, Melissa Helppi dropped by to share some of her experiences during her time at Finlandia. Helppi is graduating Summa Cum Laude from the nursing program, is giving a speech during commencement as this year’s student representative and will also be speaking at the nursing pinning ceremony. Senior art students Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore discuss upcoming Diploma Works Exhibition

Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the annual Diploma Works Exhibition. Both students are graduating from the International School for Art + Design (ISAD). The exhibition highlights work from the graduating class. This year 10 seniors will have work on display.

Geri Hawley explains why Physical Therapist Assistant is a great degree option

Geri Hawley, an instructor in the Physical Therapists Assistant (PTA) program, stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss the PTA degree offered at Finlandia. “We are designed to prepare students to go out into the clinical field and work with patients under a physical therapist to be able to treat patients and get them better in any pathology they have,” stated Hawley. Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Dr. Emily Geiger stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the biology degree offered at FinnU. This is Dr. Geiger’s second year of teaching at Finlandia. Upon her arrival, both science labs had been newly renovated, thanks to Portage Health System. With the renovations, Dr. Geiger mentioned that students now have their own individual work spaces, and more classes can be offered, like organic chemistry, due to the upgraded equipment.

Soon-to-be nursing graduate Alison Patchel visited Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about her experience at Finlandia, as well as her plans for the future. Patchel is originally from Marysville, a town in the Southeastern part of Michigan.
