Investigating the criminal justice program with Dr. Richard Gee

Finlandia Fridays dove into the criminal justice program this week with Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Dr. Richard Gee. “The criminal justice program at Finlandia is unique in that we we don’t do any of the stuff that you would get at a police academy or a corrections academy. Marketing major Kyle Niemi and his internship with Mesensei mobile mentoring

Senior marketing major Kyle Niemi stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss his internship with Finnish mobile mentoring company Mesensei. Tuukka Ylälahti, the creator of Mesensei, was in an earlier episode this season, where he previewed the app and his inspiration behind it.

50th episode celebration with leaders of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes

This week Finlandia Fridays celebrated the airing of its 50th episode with leaders of a new group on campus, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Tyler Browner and Jean Pimentel are both active members in the group and came to share their stories of how they ended up at Finlandia and what FCA has done for them.

Service Learning in Tanzania with Christina Krider and René Johnson

Finlandia Fridays received a taste of Africa this week when René Johnson and Christina Krider came to talk about Service and Learning in Tanzania.

Finlandia Fridays was visited this week by the Finnish American Heritage Center’s intern Mika Tompuri. Musician Jonathan Rundman discusses artist in residency for Heikinpäivä

Finlandia Fridays was visited this week by musician Jonathan Rundman. Rundman is the musician in residence this year for Heikinpäivä. Originally from Ishpeming, Rundman currently lives in the Twin Cities and makes a living off being a singer-songwriter. Rundman stated that he always wanted to be a musician, even when he was little, and was glad his career kick started in the 90’s, before streaming was around. Travis Cornwell talks communication degree, radio internship and study abroad

This week Finlandia Fridays was visited be senior communication major Travis Cornwell. Originally from Minnesota, Cornwell stated “Finlandia kind of found me. I was in Vegas at a showcase for hockey, and they were one of the last schools to look at me, so I decided to give them a chance. Joe Burcar highlights bright future of Finlandia men’s hockey program

Men’s hockey coach Joe Burcar stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about home games, new recruits and upgrades to Houghton County Arena. Burcar is excited to be back on home ice, mentioning that the team has not been at home since the second weekend in November. “Any time it’s game day, especially when it’s at home, it’s a great day,” stated Burcar.

The Finlandia gridiron with football coach Rob Boss

New head football coach Rob Boss came to chat about the future of Finlandia University football this week on Finlandia Fridays. Boss stated “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here,” when asked about his Finlandia experience thus far. Boss joined Finlandia’s staff last fall as an assistant, and was promoted to head coach on November 6.
