Finns of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula book released by Finnish American Heritage Center

The Finns’ influence on Upper Michigan’s life, history and culture is well documented. Now, it’s also well compiled and ready for a place on your bookshelf or coffee table. The Finnish American Heritage Center has recently completed a book in the “Images of America” series through Arcadia Press titled “Finns of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”

Though the book includes contributions from some other agencies, it primarily contains images from the FAHC’s extensive photo collection. [...]

2019 MLK Day of Service volunteer site signups now open

Student volunteers at Barkell Elementary during MLK Day of Service 2018. Students can now sign up to volunteer during the 2019 MLK Day of Service.

Students participating in Finlandia University’s fourth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service are invited to sign up for their service site now.

Finlandia Introduces five new Board of Trustees

In 2018 Finlandia University officially welcomed five new members to its Board of Trustees.

“This new cohort reflects those qualities that have marked those who have served in the past: a tenacious resolve and unyielding dedication to advance Finlandia’s vision and see it thrive,” Finlandia University President Philip Johnson said.

The latest additions bring to Finlandia’s governing body a promising blend of professional acumen, leadership experience and deep personal affinities.

28th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition to feature Tia Salmela Keobounpheng

Finlandia University Gallery will present the 28th annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition featuring the work of artist Tia Salmela Keobounpheng. Her exhibit, titled Permission, will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from November 29, 2018 to February 15, 2019.

Mont Ripley discount season pass available to students and employees

Students and employees of Finlandia have the opportunity to buy a season pass to Mont Ripley for $170. Spread the word, ten individuals are needed in order to get the discount. An added bonus is that the discount also applies to family members of those who purchase the pass. If you’re interested in participating, students can contact senate@finlandia.edu and employees can contact Kelly Dostaler.

The deadline for the deal is Thursday, November 29.

Devin O’Neill joins marketing and communications staff at Finlandia University

The marketing and communications office at Finlandia University welcomed Devin O’Neill to its team this fall as the new Marketing Coordinator.

“We’re beyond excited about what Devin brings to the team,” Director of Marketing & Communications Michael H. Babcock said. “He brings in the kind of upbeat attitude and can-do work ethic that we need to continue progress in our marketing and communications efforts.”

Coordinator of External Relations Olivia Myers dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss an exciting event that will be taking place November 27- Giving Tuesday.
