Save The Date: Opening Convocation

All employees and students are invited to the opening convocation at Finlandia University Sunday, August 27 at 4 p.m. The event will begin with a grand march from Finlandia Hall to the Paavo Nurmi Center. Immediately following the convocation, all in attendance are invited to Finlandia Hall for a spaghetti feed. The event will feature live music, introductions to student groups and student leaders, and more as the 120th school year commences.

Employees invited to get new professional portrait on Wednesday, August 23

Finlandia University employees are invited to have a new professional portrait taken on Wednesday, August 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Finlandia Hall. New employees and those who have not had a professional portrait taken to this point are especially encouraged to attend, but all employees are invited. The event will feature professional photographer Jillian Sarazin. No RSVP is required.

All students are asked to go online to Empower to confirm their schedule prior to the start of the semester.  Some students may notice that courses have changed times, locations, and/or days.  If you have any questions when reviewing your schedule, please contact your academic advisor.

North Wind Books hosting “Bakers & Books” series

Every Thursday, beginning August 17 and running through the end of September, North Wind Books will be hosting a local baker for a series titled “Bakers & Books.” The series is open to the public, will feature complementary coffee and will begin at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

ISAD graduate Hayley Laban honored as top 50 graphic designer under 30

The publication The Drum named International School of Art & Design graduate Hayley Laban (’11) as one of the top 50 graphic designers under 30 years old. Jim Kurtti featured in Finnish Embassy’s Centennial Video Series

The Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C. has posted a 80-second video of Jim Kurtti, Director of the Finnish American Heritage Center, as part of its #100FriendsOfFinland Centennial Video Series. The embassy has a total of 100 videos that will be shared leading up to the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence.

Finlandia Blue Line Club hosting golf outing Sept. 3

The Finlandia Blue Line Club Golf Outing is Sunday, September 3 at the Calumet Golf Course.

“We hope you can join us for a great day of golf, to meet the new players from all three hockey teams, and to welcome back our returning players and coaches,” said Kitti Loukus, Vice President of the Finlandia University Blue Line Club Board.
