Everything you need to know about Graduation Week 2021

Finlandia’s Baccalaureate and Commencement are this week on Thursday, April 29. Due to COVID-19, the traditional graduation plans were shaken up. Here’s a complete run-down of when and where everything is happening.

Baccalaureate All graduates are invited to Baccalaureate Worship at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 3:30 p.m. prior to Commencement at 6 p.m. This is a service of prayer and blessing, specifically for this graduating class. While most people hunkered down in their homes last spring at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Finlandia nursing faculty began looking for opportunities to get students involved in the (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Finlandia Fridays finds a new host

Season 5 of Finlandia Fridays came to a close with a major announcement: Finlandia’s new Director of Marketing and Communications, Jordan Shawhan, will take over the role of host for next season.

Alumna Brooke Cummings joins FinnU marketing team

Finlandia University alumna Brooke Cummings (’12, Illustration) has joined the Finlandia marketing team as a communication and design specialist. Cummings has been working as a freelance graphic designer since graduating from the International School of Art & Design. Cummings’ main role will be creating print and digital pieces for the university.

“I’m hoping to bring a little splash of creativity to the table,” said Cummings. “I’m excited to eventually work on a big project, like the Bridge.”

This week on Finlandia Fridays, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Fredi DeYampert talks about, for some Finlandia students, the most magical moment of the year, Graduation 2021. $1000 Visiting Scholarship Deadline Extended

Finlandia University is extending its $1,000 Visiting Scholarship deadline to August 1, 2021. This scholarship is only available to first-time full-time students in good standing at the University entering Fall 2021. To receive this award, visits must be scheduled through the admissions office.

Finlandia is currently offering a virtual and in-person option for campus visits. Both qualify for the $1000 Visiting Scholarship.
