Finlandia University alumna Brooke Cummings (’12, Illustration) has joined the Finlandia marketing team as a communication and design specialist. Cummings has been working as a freelance graphic designer since graduating from the International School of Art & Design. Cummings’ main role will be creating print and digital pieces for the university.
“I’m hoping to bring a little splash of creativity to the table,” said Cummings. “I’m excited to eventually work on a big project, like the Bridge.”
Cummings has already been instrumental in launching a new FinnTV system on campus that will improve digital signage. Beyond her design skills, she also brings a different valuable experience to the office as an alumna.
“It helps already being familiar with the university brand, understanding who I’m targeting with my designs and what information to include and how that information will be received from a student’s perspective,” said Cummings. “It feels like I’m on the other side of the glass looking in,” said Cummings. “As a student, I never really thought about all the inner workings of the university, but seeing it from this side makes me realize how much work the staff and faculty puts in to communicate effectively with each other, to keep everything functioning, to keep students informed and to make them feel as welcome as possible.”
For Cummings started her role February 2021 and is excited to be working alongside a team and has enjoyed her coworkers.
“I love the people I get to work with,” she said. “I’m also enjoying creating posters for events as there is a lot of room for play, and having work become tangible through printing is satisfying.”
