Finlandia Fridays finds a new host

Season 5 of Finlandia Fridays came to a close with a major announcement: Finlandia’s new Director of Marketing and Communications, Jordan Shawhan, will take over the role of host for next season.

Shawhan steps into host Olivia Myers’ role for Season 6, which will premier in August 2021. In the episode, Shawhan talks about his ties to the area, the career move he made from insurance to higher ed, and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.

“Higher education, I’ve certainly been around it my whole life,” said Shawhan. “Both of my parents work locally for universities so that is something I’ve grown up through, but there are a lot of similarities through insurance and higher education. Really, it’s just being able to work with people and meet their needs and it’s just so awesome to be able to have an impact on such a granular level in people’s lives.”

For those wondering, yes, Shawhan is related to Laura Shawhan, a previous Finlandia employee, and Joe Shawhan, head coach of Michigan Tech’s men’s hockey program. Despite the connection to MTU, Jordan said he’s a full-fledged Finlandia Lion now and would sport the Blue and White anytime Finlandia played against MTU in a sporting event.

Jordan also confirmed that Finlandia Fridays was renewed for a sixth season.

“We are definitely bringing back Finlandia Fridays and I couldn’t be happier,” he said.
