Everything you need to know about Graduation Week 2021

April 26, 2021

Finlandia’s Baccalaureate and Commencement are this week on Thursday, April 29. Due to COVID-19, the traditional graduation plans were shaken up. Here’s a complete run-down of when and where everything is happening.

Baccalaureate

All graduates are invited to Baccalaureate Worship at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 3:30 p.m. prior to Commencement at 6 p.m. This is a service of prayer and blessing, specifically for this graduating class. Graduating seniors are invited to attend, with up to two guests. Space is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.  Please RSVP no later than Monday 4/26, so that we can ensure you have a spot at this important service. The service will also be streaming live via Finlandia’s social media channels.

Commencement

Finlandia University’s 2021 Spring Commencement will take place on Thursday, April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Hirvonen Health Sciences Building Auditorium (formerly the old Hancock High School). As a safety precaution against the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be in-person but will be limited to graduating students, honor recipients, Finlandia faculty, and TWO permitted guests per student graduate. The event will be live-streamed and recorded for family viewing. Graduating seniors who plan on attending need to RSVP here.

The live stream will be available on the Finlandia YouTube channel or finlandia.edu/graduation.

Commencement speakers will include retired Fiber & Fashion Design professor, Phyllis Fredendall, and the 2021 Student Representative, Ramona Kuhn. The ceremony will also feature a presentation of Honors & Awards recipients as well as the nursing pinning ceremony.

Diploma Works

The International School of Art & Design Diploma Works reception will be on Saturday, May 1 at 7 p.m. and is only open to graduating seniors and their families.
