Scholarships Created Through Harju Gift, FAHC Director Position Endowed

Onni and Dorothea Harju

Finlandia University has received one of its most significant endowment gifts to date from the estate of Onni and Dorothea Harju.

Like many other Finnish American men, Onni grew up on a farm with very humble beginnings. Through his lifetime of hard work and investment – which included growing Christmas trees on the Red Granite, Wisconsin farmland – Onni planted his strong Finnish roots by investing in the future.

On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day students and staff at Finlandia University take a break from classes and give their energy to the local community. To pay tribute to the man that changed the trajectory of civil rights in the United States, the annual Finlandia MLK Day of Service puts the normal university day on hold so that FinnU students, staff, alumni, and friends of the University can make their little bit of difference through small acts of kindness.

Finlandia University is offering a $250 Early FAFSA Scholarship for incoming and prospective students who complete and file their FAFSA by February 1, 2020.

On Thursday, November 21, first-year business students participated in a networking workshop with local business people and other working professionals. It’s been nearly 100 years since women in the U.S. earned the right to vote, exactly 100 years since the U.S. began official diplomatic relations with Finland, and 175 years since Minna Canth, Finland’s most famed champion for women’s rights, was born.
