Gallery Hours Reduced in December and January

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University Gallery in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock announces reduced hours during the holidays. The gallery will be closed Thursday, November 28 – December 1 for the Thanksgiving holiday and will remain closed until the next exhibit opens Thursday, December 5th.  Beginning December 11, 2019  through January 13, 2020 the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Haley Bussell Joins the Marketing and Communications Team at Finlandia University

The marketing and communications office at Finlandia University welcomed Haley Bussell to their team this early fall as the new Digital Marketing Coordinator. 

“I’m delighted to be joining FinnU’s enriched and engaged faculty and staff. Being surrounded by educators, community leaders, and lifelong learners is a great place to be.”

Bussell earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from Northern Michigan University and worked within NMU’s marketing and communications team as a student employee before making the move to Hancock.

Mount Ripley Discount Season Pass Available to Students and Employees

Students and employees of Finlandia have the opportunity to buy a season pass to Mont Ripley for $175. Spread the word, ten individuals are needed in order to get the discount. An added bonus is that the discount also applies to family members of those who purchase the pass. Join FinnU in Advocating for the Continuation of the Michigan Tuition Grant Program What is the Michigan Tuition Grant?

The Michigan Tuition Grant is state-sponsored funding that helps subsidize the cost of private higher education in Michigan. Distributed to students in the form of $2,400 per year, the Michigan Tuition Grant program is available to undergraduate Michigan residents with financial need who plan to attend or are attending independent, degree-granting Michigan post-secondary institutions.

Donors Can Double their Gift for FinnU Student Scholarships on Giving Tuesday

Finlandia University hopes to raise $75,000 for student scholarships on Giving Tuesday which takes place on December 3. Finlandia donors can double their gifts this Giving Tuesday, as the university will again have a matching incentive. Board of Trustees President Julie Badel has agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar that are raised, up to $20,000, for the second year in a row.

29th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition Lisa Autio: A Walk Along the Shore

The Finlandia University Gallery presents the 29th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition featuring the artwork of Lisa Autio.

A Walk Along the Shore, an exhibit of mixed media sculptural wall pieces will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC), Hancock from December 5, 2019 to January 11, 2020.

Ceramics Students To Hold Holiday Sale

This year ceramics students will be holding a holiday sale on December 4-6th.  Students will be selling their work and all proceeds made go to the ceramics fund.

These funds are used for trips to the annual National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts conference and equipment. In the past fundraisers such as these have also helped in purchasing new pottery wheels, electric and gas kilns, as well as the new ventilation system in the clay and glaze mixing [...]

The relationship between government and business is not something that is always understood by the general public or even business people.  Chris Hatton, Legislative Director at the Michigan House of Representatives, recently spoke to FinnU business students about the importance of this relationship.
