Learning about healthy gender identity with Filmmaker Byron Hurt

This week Finlandia Fridays was visited by documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt. Hurt’s film Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes was shown last week to kick off the Month of Action, a month-long campaign put on by Finlandia to raise awareness against sexual violence and encourage healthy gender identity. Hurt was also on campus to give a talk “Locker Room Talk or Toxic Masculinity?”, which took place earlier this week.

Finlandia Fridays was visited by an old friend this week, soon to be alumnus, Christopher Dennis to talk about the internship he took this past summer with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Finlandia Fridays was visited this week by Denise Vandeville, Dean of the International School of Art and Design (ISAD), to discuss a new opportunity being offered to high school students called Studio Days. Studio Days allows high school students to come in and “try out” the various art programs offered at Finlandia.

The university was introduced to Patch at opening convocation, which took place on August 27, the Sunday before classes started. Claudia Youakim and Hailee Johnson outline SCAS Capstone Presentations

This week on Finlandia Fridays, professor Dr. Claudia Youakim and senior sociology major Hailee Johnson join the program to touch on a very compelling capstone project through the Suomi College of Arts & Sciences (SCAS). SCAS Capstones are projects completed and presented upon by students here at Finlandia University.
