Student Senate President Charles Patch kicks off second season of Finlandia Fridays

This week Finlandia Fridays is joined by Student Senate President Charles Patch. The university was introduced to Patch at opening convocation, which took place on August 27, the Sunday before classes started. As president, Patch explained that senate is a club that is a voice for students on campus, saying that senate is “here for you.” Highly encouraged to take on the mantle of president by previous senate members, Charles is excited to make a difference on campus and encourages students to be “purposeful” in trying to build a community on and off campus.

Charles is a junior in the nursing program, which he stumbled upon after moving to the area. Patch stated that after moving in with his sister and working a few jobs, he realized that he was interested in the medical field. Finlandia stood out to him because of its strong ties to the medical community in the Keewenaw. After changing majors several times, Patch landed on nursing.

Coming This Week

As well as kicking off Finlandia Fridays, this week the Lions football team has its home opener against Lawrence University on Saturday. The game will be broadcasted 99.3 The Lift, a new local radio station that is the home of Finlandia Sports. If you enjoy live music, this upcoming Tuesday is the Second Tuesday Recital Series, which is located in the Chapel of St. Matthew.

Finlandia Fridays can be heard on its new home 97.7 The Wolf every Friday at 9:10 a.m. We also would like to recognize and thank Walker Enstad for helping to get Finlandia Fridays off the ground, and to welcome Monica Freeman, who will be taking over Walker’s position as the marketing intern for this school year.
