Finlandia nursing program awarded Towsley grant for new HAL simulation mannequin

Finlandia University’s nursing program just grew by one.

Not one person. One mannequin.

Thanks to a grant by the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation, FinnU’s nursing program was able to purchase a new state-of-the-art HAL S3000 simulation mannequin for students to practice on.

Student representative Melissa Helppi talks about her time in the nursing program

As the school year winds down, Melissa Helppi dropped by to share some of her experiences during her time at Finlandia. Helppi is graduating Summa Cum Laude from the nursing program, is giving a speech during commencement as this year’s student representative and will also be speaking at the nursing pinning ceremony. Geri Hawley explains why Physical Therapist Assistant is a great degree option

Geri Hawley, an instructor in the Physical Therapists Assistant (PTA) program, stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss the PTA degree offered at Finlandia. “We are designed to prepare students to go out into the clinical field and work with patients under a physical therapist to be able to treat patients and get them better in any pathology they have,” stated Hawley. Registration for summer and fall now open for all students

Registration for fall and summer classes is now underway for all students. Your first step is to see your academic advisor to get your PIN.  This will allow you to sign up for classes online. In addition, you will need to clear any holds that may be on your account (billing, financial aid, admissions, etc.).

The annual Portage Health Foundation Scholarship opportunity for Finlandia University students studying healthcare and coming from Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga or Ontonagon counties is now accepting applications.

101 students recognized on Fall 2017 Dean’s and Honors List

Finlandia University is proud to announce its Fall 2017 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 101 students earned a recognition, including 60 who earned a spot on the Dean’s List for having a Grade Point Average of 3.75 or above.

Deadline to apply for Westerman Scholarship for Nursing is March 19

Students in Finlandia University’s BSN Program are invited to apply for the Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing by noon on Monday, March 19.

This scholarship is awarded annually, and students may apply and renew the scholarship each year assuming they continue to meet the criteria. New applicants and those looking to renew are given equal consideration each year. The number and amount of scholarships awarded depend on the funds available.
