Submissions asked for Second Tuesday Recital Series

The Second Tuesday Recital Series is set to return on Tuesday, October 11 at 12:30 in the Chapel of St. Matthew, and currently submissions are being accepted for performers.

This series is open to anyone who may wish to share a performing arts piece, such as: Music, Drama, Dance, Performance poetry/prose. The number of participants in a Second Tuesday Recital Series is only limited by the half-hour time slot.

Orientation 2016 is August 25-27

Incoming students will begin their Finlandia University careers on Thursday, August 25 during New Student Orientation 2016.

“This is going to be an amazing first couple of days on campus,” Director of Academic Success and Student Life Erin Barnett said. “Students will gain instrumental information during the days, and be introduced to much of the natural beauty Lake Superior and Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula have to offer during the evenings.”

Road construction now in front of Finlandia in Hancock

This summer the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reconstructing about a mile of US-41 in Hancock from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge to Lincoln Drive. Late last week the project moved in front of Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center, future College of Health Sciences building and North Wind Books.

Finlandia University has been named one of 30 Great Small Colleges for Book Lovers by About Great Books. The article was published on the organization’s website in May.

The colleges on this list were chosen for reasons including their extraordinary libraries or other resources for book lovers, their unique dedication to the “great books,” or because they are home to a highly sought-after English and literature department.

TRiO Upward Bound, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to help nourish high school students this summer

This summer, from June 13 to July 14, 2016, approximately 35 area high school students will experience the daily routines of college freshmen on the Finlandia University campus.

The TRiO Upward Bound summer students live in the Finlandia residence hall, attend demanding daily classes, complete homework, meet new people, and, of course, eat three meals daily in Finlandia’s cafeteria.

The Finlandia University Marketing and Communications Department is proud to announce the launch of a new website. The website went live Thursday, June 2 at finlandia.edu.

Finlandia Hall aids students in receiving all their vital needs, food at the Café, sizable dorm rooms, multiple lounge areas for relaxation, computer lab and study rooms for studying that are open all hours throughout the day and night. Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design is renowned for its incredibly facilities, ability to bring in professional artists and focus on the Finnish model of education. It’s also quickly becoming known for having an amazing ceramics program under the lead of emerging artist Kenyon Hansen.

Suomi Roomies Reunion to take place Sept. 16-18

Finlandia University graduates from 1974 through 1978, known lovingly as the Suomi Roomies, will be on campus for the group’s second reunion September 16-18, 2016.

The event will include an on-campus banquet, catching a Finlandia Lions football game at McAfee Field, a cookout at McLain’s State Park, campus tours and meals, and more!
