Sports management alum takes job with AHL’s Wild

Jason Aldrich (’11) was recently introduced as Equipment Manager and Strength Coach of the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild, minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild. Aldrich is a 2011 graduate of Finlandia’s Sports Management program, and played for FinnU’s NCAA Division III hockey program.

Events kick off Thursday with opening reception

Finlandia University Gallery has once again lined up an incredible set of Finnish and Finnish American artists for the fall of 2017. The fall schedule kicks off tonight, Thursday, September 21, with a gallery opening for an exhibit of 10 Finnish artists.

Osterholm speaks about upcoming trip to U.P. with WNMU

As preparations are finalized for the Finnish male choir that’s heading to the Copper Country, the group’s travel coordinator Jan-Erik Osterholm was able to catch up with WNMU’s Kurt Hauswirth to talk about the upcoming trip, which not only includes the Festival Ruska performance on Saturday, September 30 at Calumet Theatre, but also a stop in Marquette in Sunday, October 1.

10 Finnish artists on display at Finlandia University Gallery opening reception Thursday

Moved by Nature, an exhibit of contemporary artists incorporating Finnish folktales and mythologies will feature the work of three Finnish artists; Riitta Ikonen, Taina Kontio and Satu Miettinen. Also on display will be six short films by Finnish filmmakers, Mari Ljokkoi, Leena Lehti, Mia Rantavaara and Sanni Hujanen, Jukka Silokunnas, Elsa Trzaska and Riitta Järvelä .

Makeup session for employee portraits scheduled for Friday

If you missed the first opportunity to have your portrait taken this year, or are simply interested in having a new photo taken, you’re invited to stop by Finlandia Hall between 12:30 and 1 p.m. this Friday. Volunteers needed for Mobile Food Pantry in Baraga

Volunteers are still needed to help at the Mobile Food Pantry to be hosted in Baraga on Wednesday, September 27. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and is being hosted by Finlandia University Campus Ministry, Feeding America West Michigan, Western U.P. Food Bank and Baraga Area Schools in the parking lot of Baraga High School.
