Finlandia University announces In-State Transfer Tuition Pricing for Michigan and non-Michigan residents

Finlandia University announced today the implementation of “In-State Transfer Tuition Pricing,” available to Michigan and non-Michigan residents. This first-of-its-kind tuition reset helps establish FinnU as a transfer-friendly leader in the Midwest and beyond.

Beginning with the January 2018 semester, Finlandia will reset tuition to $12,594 per year or $6,297 per semester for students bringing in at least six transferable college credits. The tuition reset price is the median in-state tuition price for public, four-year institutions in the state of Michigan.

Andrews named head women’s soccer coach

Jordan Andrews has been named head coach for the Finlandia University women’s soccer program. Andrews has been an assistant coach for the men’s team for the last three seasons and women’s team for the last two seasons.

Imagine a world where “slut” doesn’t make sense as an insult

Tonight Finlandia University welcomes Emily Linden, the founder of the Unslut Project. She will present at the Finnish American Heritage Center on Tuesday, November, 14 at 7 p.m.

Linden’s story began with her personal accounts of being “slut-shamed” in middle school. Upon hearing tragic stories of young women who committed suicide to escape bullying, Linden was moved to share her personal experiences of bullying to bring light to the heart-wrenching consequences of such behavior. TODAY: Spring Play Auditions!

Interested in theatre, looking to get involved or interested in a couple unique classes? Then you’ll want to head to the Chapel of St. Matthew tonight between 8:30 and 10 p.m. for spring play auditions.

The play is being directed by Rev. Soren Schmidt who is looking for male and female actors and directing assistants. These are also two courses available. This is open to students, employees and community members.

Finlandia University Gallery announces extended winter and spring hours

The Finlandia University Gallery announces evening and Saturday hours of operation.

Starting Thursday, November 16 and through the month of April 2018, the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as on Thursday evenings until 7 p.m., and on Saturday afternoons from 12 to 4 p.m.

Kangas wins North Wind Books shootout 

Tyler Kangas, a student at Finlandia University, won the North Wind Books Sharpshooter Challenge on Nov. 11.  The challenge was at the men’s hockey game against Trine.

For the challenge, there was a board covering the net with a slot at the bottom in the middle. Kangas put his shot from the red line through the slot to win a $250 book voucher from North Wind Books. The North Wind Books challenge will be at all men’s and women’s varsity hockey home [...]

Soup and Silent Art Auction Fundraiser by WYCA is Saturday

Event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Finnish American Heritage Center

Students from the Young Women’s Caucus for Art are hosting their annual Soup and Silent Art Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, November 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Finnish American Heritage Center.

The Student Senate is hosting their biannual student forum on Tuesday, November, 28 in the Finlandia Hall Cafeteria from 12 – 1 p.m. The aim of the event is to give students the opportunity to communicate their concerns and suggestions to Finlandia staff directly or by anonymous submission. Don’t miss this chance to improve the Finlandia experience.

Tuukka Ylälahti and his mobile mentoring startup Mesensei come from Finland to Finlandia

Tuukka Ylälahti stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about his revolutionary new app Mesensei. Ylälahti is the co-founder of Mesensei, a startup company working on “mentorship programs in support of learning, entrepreneurship and social inclusion.” The program and Ylälahti have visited various universities in America to see how the program would do in the American market. With close ties to Finland, Finlandia seemed like the obvious choice to lay some ground work.
