Lions Athletics celebrated Finlandia’s MLK Day of Service by spending time at local elementary schools on Monday. Three programs had the opportunity to connect with local students and engage with them in their classroom settings through book readings, class work and games.

MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University is a day to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. through community service and volunteering. This year, out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, MLK Day activities originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 17 have been postponed. The annual tradition of Finlandia University students taking the day off from classes and participating in community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of testing and social distancing guidelines, many of the opportunities that students normally have for community service, like visiting nursing homes and reading to school-aged children, are no longer available.

Finlandia University students, staff and faculty were all over the Copper Country community on Monday as they recognized Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by performing community service.
