Out of an abundance of caution, due to COVID, we are postponing the MLK Day Activities originally scheduled for Jan. 17, 2022. Martin Luther King Day will still be a day of observance. As a Baptist minister who saw no separation between faith and social activism, Dr. King changed the trajectory of civil rights in the United States. To honor his memory, classes are suspended for the day.
In 2016 a new tradition ingrained in service and community was inaugurated at Finlandia University to pay tribute to a man who had a dream – Martin Luther King, Jr. As a Baptist minister who saw no separation between faith and social activism, Dr. King changed the trajectory of civil rights in the United States. To honor his memory, classes are suspended for the day so that Finlandia students, staff, alumni and friends of the university might make their little bit of difference serving our community.
While there are no regular classes held on Monday, January 17, in observance of MLK Day, your participation in one of the below activities goes on record as attendance credit for any Monday classes that were suspended for MLK Day. Attendance will be taken at all opportunities and passed on to faculty.

The annual tradition of Finlandia University students taking the day off from classes and participating in community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of testing and social distancing guidelines, many of the opportunities that students normally have for community service, like visiting nursing homes and reading to school-aged children, are no longer available.
