MLK Day of Service postponed

MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University is a day to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. through community service and volunteering. This year, out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, MLK Day activities originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 17 have been postponed. Martin Luther King Day will still be a day of observance and classes will be suspended for the day.

FinnU’s Time-Honored MLK Day of Service Undergoes Changes Due to COVID-19

The annual tradition of Finlandia University students taking the day off from classes and participating in community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of testing and social distancing guidelines, many of the opportunities that students normally have for community service, like visiting nursing homes and reading to school-aged children, are no longer available.

The Mobile Food Pantry is Back at the Chapel on Dec. 3

On Thursday, December 3, Finlandia University will be hosting another Mobile Food Pantry in the parking lot between Old Main and the Chapel of St. Mattew. Organized through Feeding American West Michigan, mobile food pantries help fill the gap in hunger needs in a community, by supplementing the ongoing work of local pantries with much needed fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Day of Wellness Event Schedule

On November 4, most classes on campus will be canceled so students can focus on their mental health, take a breather, and regroup for the final few weeks of the semester. MLK Day of Service 2020 Excitement Builds On Campus

On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day students and staff at Finlandia University take a break from classes and give their energy to the local community. To pay tribute to the man that changed the trajectory of civil rights in the United States, the annual Finlandia MLK Day of Service puts the normal university day on hold so that FinnU students, staff, alumni, and friends of the University can make their little bit of difference through small acts of kindness.
