Day of Wellness Event Schedule

November 2, 2020

On November 4, most classes on campus will be canceled so students can focus on their mental health, take a breather, and regroup for the final few weeks of the semester. The Day will officially kick off on the evening of November 3 with a bonfire between the Hoover Center and the Chapel of St. Matthew from 7-9p.m.. Students, faculty and staff are invited to grab dinner to-go from the Dia de Muertos community meal and sit around the bonfire.

On November 4, there will be multiple events to reset mentally, give back to the community and safely connect with each other.

Make Cards to Make Elders Smile: Stop by Tutoring Learning Center or the Chapel of St. Matthew basement all day and help Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly serve Elders this holiday season.  Little Brothers is an organization in Hancock committed to providing friendship and service to isolated and potentially lonely elderly persons. During the holiday season, they have put out a call for over 1,000 hand-made cards, to be included with deliveries to elders between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Can Finlandia provide over 200? At the Tutoring Learning Center and the Chapel of St. Matthew basement, you’ll find the supplies to make simple, homemade cards with brief messages of care to the elders of the community. What would you want your own grandparents to know during this season of holidays and Covid? Sharing just a small note could make a big difference. Will you take five minutes to make a card?

Spiritual/Emotional Support Drop-In Conversations: Each one of us carries things, even during the most ‘normal’ of seasons. Then we add a pandemic, an election, and the end of the semester workload. If you need someone to talk to, process or pray with — Pastor Sarah Semmler Smith is available for drop-in conversation from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on this day. Her office is located in the lower level of the Chapel of Saint Matthew. Or call her at (906) 487 -7239.

Cornhole in Paavo: Play cornhole from 12p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Paavo gym! A max of 20 people will be permitted in the gym at one time. Come on your own or with friends to play a game. Each person that plays a game of cornhole will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to local restaurants. You may be entered multiple times.

Student Senate Forum on Instagram: Student Senate will be sitting down with President Johnson at 5 p.m. and broadcasting it on Finlandia’s Instagram account.
