Finlandia’s all-new investment lab is putting the call out for additional members. In this week’s episode, FinnU International School of Business senior Accounting students Anders Saarela and Michael Stuber join the show to talk about their experience in the new student organization.
“I believe it was October of last semester when it first got initiated. It’s for any Finlandia students and staff that are interested in attending,” Saarela said. “Whether you’re a nursing major, art major, business major, whatever, and you’re just interested in personal wealth management, I would say it would definitely be worth your while to come,” he later added.
The Investment Lab is four months old and has already attained an 11% return on its currently hypothetical portfolio. Community Advisor Joe Dancy leads the team of diverse majors, who meet every Thursday at noon in the Maki Library conference room. The team chooses stocks and puts them through a screening process to evaluate. Some group members, like Stuber, are even finding success in their personal portfolios with things they’ve learned in the lab.
“Now that I’ve joined the lab, we can take these practices and use them in our real-life portfolios, which is so invaluable to anyone who wants to learn about investing.”
In addition to their involvement with the new investment lab, Saarela and Stuber spend time each week working hands-on at the Jutila Center for Global Design & Business through internships with Finlandia’s Business Office.
“It’s just a great opportunity because we get to learn more about the university and we get to learn more and more about finances and the day-to-day tasks the business needs to operate one,” Stuber said.
