Hancock Promise application deadline extended to May 1 for Hancock grads

April 11, 2022

Houghton Hancock Bridge Canal AerialFinlandia’s Hancock Promise deadline has been extended to May 1. This means Hancock Central High School students who are interested in attending FinnU in Fall 2022 will have additional time to start their application process.

The Hancock Promise allows for Hancock Central High School graduates to attend Finlandia University at a tuition cost of up to only $2,500 per school year. Beginning in 2009, approximately 18-26 students have taken advantage of the program annually.

The decision to extend the Hancock Promise application deadline coincides with the recently extended FAFSA Priority Deadline to May 1, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, along with National College Decision Day. The FAFSA is a critical step when applying for grants, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance. Students who have not completed and submitted their FAFSA should do so before May 1, as waiting until after the deadline may lead to not receiving all the financial aid they could have been able to receive.

For students not eligible for the Hancock Promise, FinnU offers numerous scholarship opportunities in its mission to make affordable higher education for all such as the Lake Effect Scholarship (tuition reduced to $2,500 per year), $10,000 Finnish Strong Transfer Scholarship, U.P. Commitment Scholarship ($4,000), Western Great Lakes Scholarship (up to $4,000) and the Rise Together free full-tuition scholarship.
