Finlandia Top Liberal Arts School Great Value

Finlandia University has been named a Top 30 Liberal Arts College in the Midwest according to Great Value Colleges.

“Finlandia is honored to be included in the list of the Top 30 Liberal Arts Colleges in the Midwest, as presented by Great Value College,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Fredi deYampert. “Finlandia is indeed a great value. We are the only liberal arts university in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our tuition is competitive and the quality of the educational experience here is outstanding. We are proud of the programs we offer and the success of our students.”

Great Value Colleges crafted their list by identifying each and every liberal arts college located in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. They then narrowed down the list to just 30 schools by focusing on the following:

    • Core curriculum
    • Rankings, both national and international
    • Student retention rates
    • Notable faculty and alumni
    • Historical significance
    • PayScale’s 20-year Return on Investment (ROI)

Finlandia’s location in the Upper Peninsula and focus on the Lutheran-inspired core curriculum helped secure a spot in the top 30.

The announcement comes on the heels of several of Finlandia’s latest accolades and announcements concerning strong degree programs and affordability including a 100 percent first time NCLEX pass rate for the Class of 2019 Nursing students and being named one of the Most Affordable Schools in Michigan for a Bachelor’s Degree according to Affordable Schools.

In addition, Finlandia just introduced two new needs-based scholarship initiatives designed to help make private higher education affordable for all. The Rise Together Scholarship provides free full tuition to eligible low-income students beginning in Fall 2020, while the Western Great Lakes Scholarship will provide need-based funding up to $4,000 for any student hailing from Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.
