Student Spotlight: Austin Keranen, Biology

For FinnU biology student Austin Keranen, his first declared major didn’t feel like the right fit. He wanted to choose a degree that fell in line with his personal interests and made him feel enthused to learn. Since Keranen was a dual enroll student at Finlandia from Hancock Central High School, he was able to draw from that experience when declaring his biology major.

Meet your Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders

Finlandia is excited to introduce its Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders. On-Campus Orientation is a series of in-person events and activities that will introduce students to the Finlandia campus and community. Each new student will be assigned to an orientation group or “flock”, named after a bird species that is present in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Finlandia signs articulation agreement with Concordia Wisconsin School of Pharmacy

A new agreement between Concordia University Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy and Finlandia University gives students the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree and a CUW PharmD degree, and save a year of studies in the process.

Arts & Sciences will offer B.S. in Biology, Psychology; two new minors beginning Fall 2020

Finlandia’s Suomi College of Arts & Sciences is excited to introduce two new bachelor’s degrees and two new minors for fall 2020. The new degrees are a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. The new minors students can explore are Military Science and Global Studies.

The time of year has come for Finlandia University seniors to begin wrapping up their studies, and begin to think about the future. Suomi College of Arts & Sciences (SCAS) seniors will be presenting on their capstones Thursday, May 2 in Wargelin Hall in Classroom 303.

Finlandia University is pleased to welcome new Assistant Professor of Chemistry Dr. Ashok Khanal.

Studying the Biology Degree with Assistant Professor Dr. Emily Geiger

Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Dr. Emily Geiger stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the biology degree offered at FinnU. This is Dr. Geiger’s second year of teaching at Finlandia. Upon her arrival, both science labs had been newly renovated, thanks to Portage Health System. With the renovations, Dr. Geiger mentioned that students now have their own individual work spaces, and more classes can be offered, like organic chemistry, due to the upgraded equipment.
