TRIO Talent Search Meets APR Objectives

TRIO Talent Search at Finlandia University met 100 percent of their Annual Performance Report objectives, set by the U.S. Department of Education, for the 2019-2020 academic year. Each year, TRIO programs must complete an Annual Performance Report (APR) to assess the grantee’s progress in meeting its approved goals and objectives and to determine a grantee’s prior experience (PE) points in accordance with the program regulations.

College Access Program Accepting Applications

TRIO Upward Bound (TRIO UB), hosted by Finlandia University, is currently accepting applications for 20 new high school participants from the CCISD. Ideal TRIO UB candidates would like to attend college after high school, are open to academic and personal support, are committed to attending events, and would appreciate a community atmosphere.

Melissa Helppi (’18, RN, BSN) Joins Finlandia’s Nursing Faculty

Melissa Helppi (’18, RN, BSN) recently joined Finlandia’s nursing faculty as an instructor. Helppi was the 2018 student representative for Finlandia and graduated Summa Laude from FinnU’s BSN program. She has been with the university since her graduation as a professional Nursing tutor, but has now joined the faculty. Her current duties include instructing the adult medical-surgical nursing course and clinical, and being a maternal-child clinical instructor.

The Mobile Food Pantry is Back at the Chapel on Dec. 3

On Thursday, December 3, Finlandia University will be hosting another Mobile Food Pantry in the parking lot between Old Main and the Chapel of St. Mattew. Organized through Feeding American West Michigan, mobile food pantries help fill the gap in hunger needs in a community, by supplementing the ongoing work of local pantries with much needed fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Suomi College of Arts & Sciences adjunct professor Dr. Marlene Broemer received her doctorate from the University of Helsinki in Comparative Literature and will return to her alma mater virtually for the biennial Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference in North American Studies. MDHHS Launches New COVID-19 Contact Tracing App, Guidance for Holidays

MI COVID ALERT

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched a new app for Android/IOS that all students and employees are encouraged to download. The app aids in contact tracing efforts. MI COVID Alert, uses bluetooth to notify users if they were in “close contact” with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
