Finlandia University launches online mental health counseling service for students through META Teletherapy

META Student Teletherapy provides students with confidential and easy access to a marketplace of mental wellness providers. Finlandia University, a long-standing liberal arts college in northern Michigan, has become the latest institution of higher learning to offer META Teletherapy to students.

Social justice and anti-racism educator Jen Fry, Owner and CEO of Jen Fry Talks, came to Finlandia University on Sept. 18 to speak with students, faculty and staff in the Hirvonen Auditorium. Fry presents through an anti-racist lens on issues of race, inclusion, intersectionality, diversity and equity.

Michigan Army National Guard, WUPHD, and Finlandia Nursing team up to support U.P. healthcare workers, encourage vaccine and testing

On Sept. 28, Finlandia will be hosting a free COVID-19 vaccine and testing clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center. The event is open to the public, vaccinated or unvaccinated, with antigen test results available within 15 minutes. Members of the Michigan Army National Guard, Western Upper Peninsula Health Department and Finlandia Nursing program will all be on-site to assist and administer tests and vaccines.

North Wind Books to host Angeline Boulley, author of NYT Bestseller “Firekeeper’s Daughter”

North Wind Books at Finlandia University will be hosting Angeline Boulley, author of New York Times Bestseller “Firekeeper’s Daughter”, for an author presentation and book signing on Thursday, September 30 starting at 3 p.m.

Free on-campus vaccine clinic Thursday, September 23

Sponsored by Upper Great Lakes Health, Finlandia University will be hosting a FREE on-campus vaccine clinic in Nikander Room 14A (Health Center) on Thursday, September 23. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., FinnU students and employees are able to receive either the Moderna (first or second dose) or the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine.

As part of the FinnU Vacc to School Challenge, students are receiving $100 for reporting their vaccines through the FinnU Vacc to School Challenge vaccine reporter. [...]

Parade of Nations updates route for 2021

The annual Parade of Nations will take place this Saturday, September 18, starting at 11 a.m. at the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, across from the miner’s statue in Houghton. The Parade will head down the hill to Lakeshore Drive, past Dee Stadium and follow Lakeshore Drive past Bridgeview Park, ending at Kestner Park. It will not go through downtown Houghton this year.

Growth at Finlandia, largest incoming class in five years

This fall, Finlandia University’s overall enrollment grew by six percent with the on-campus student population increasing by nine percent. This full-time-equivalent growth brought 25 more students to campus than in fall 2020, giving Finlandia an enrollment of 430. The fall 2021 incoming class is the largest since 2016 with Finlandia’s International School of Business realizing an all-time high of 137 degree-seeking majors.
