Introducing Paul Werner, Assistant Professor of Marketing

August 13, 2018

Paul WernerFinlandia University is happy to welcome Paul Werner as its new Assistant Professor in Marketing in the International School of Business.

“Finlandia is the premier college in the Upper Peninsula, so I am very glad to have the opportunity to work here,” said Werner. “The students are more focused and have the desire to work to their highest level.”

Werner’s past experience includes Senior Marketing Manager at Ho-Chunk Casino Resort and Convention Center in Baraboo, WI, Marketing Director at Seven Clans Casino Hotel and Waterpark in Thief River Falls, MN, and General Manager at the Superior Marketing, where he currently works. He has also taught at the collegiate level since 2005 at various colleges including Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, WI, Northland Community and Tech College in Thief River Falls, MN, and the Michigan State University Extension and Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College, both in L’Anse, MI. Werner obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing from Northern Michigan University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota.

“I look forward to working with students to help them reach their academic and career goals,” said Werner. “I have a huge passion for students and I really care about student success.”

Using past experiences in the classroom

Werner hopes his passion and past experience will help facilitate conversations and make the classes engaging.

“My teaching style is very approachable,” said Werner. “I am more of a facilitator than a teacher. I use real-life work experiences as examples to highlight the content of the lesson. Most of my past students really appreciate my experience and how I incorporate it into the classroom. My work experience is rich and varied, so I have many examples of work situations that I bring into the classroom to enhance learning.”

Werner also has high expectations for his new students.

“I hope students will be motivated to learn, and also have a desire to achieve,” he said.

Werner will be teaching courses in FinnU’s Marketing and Marketing & Graphic Design degrees. Werner can be reached at paul.werner@finlandia.edu.
