Six-Person Exhibit “What Will We Inhabit If Not Our Bodies” on Display at Gallery

The Finlandia University Gallery will present a six-person exhibit titled What We Will Inhabit if Not Our Bodies at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC), Hancock from January 8 to February 12, 2021.  Appointments for a private viewing of the exhibit can be made with Gallery Director Carrie Flaspohler at (906) 487-7500 or by email at gallery@finlandia.edu

College Access Program Accepting Applications

TRIO Upward Bound (TRIO UB), hosted by Finlandia University, is currently accepting applications for 20 new high school participants from the CCISD. Ideal TRIO UB candidates would like to attend college after high school, are open to academic and personal support, are committed to attending events, and would appreciate a community atmosphere.

Kendi’s “Stamped From the Beginning” selected as Campus Read, Anti-Racist Open Classroom Series Announced

The Campus Read Committee is pleased to announce the Spring 2021 Anti-Racist Open Classroom Series, which will complement the selected Campus Read book, Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi.

FinnU’s Time-Honored MLK Day of Service Undergoes Changes Due to COVID-19

The annual tradition of Finlandia University students taking the day off from classes and participating in community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of testing and social distancing guidelines, many of the opportunities that students normally have for community service, like visiting nursing homes and reading to school-aged children, are no longer available.

FinnU Nursing students and Upper Great Lakes physicians prepare to baseline test students for the fall 2020 semester.

Second XES Helsinki “Testing Tuesday” Event Slated for Jan. 12

Finlandia University’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter and FinnZone have launched a new initiative with the XES student entrepreneurial community from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland. The second Testing Tuesday: U.S. Edition is scheduled for January 12 at 9 a.m. EST and will feature live video business plan presentations by XES and other Helsinki-based entrepreneurs. Benolkin (’17) Named Cargill’s 2020 Sales Professional of the Year

Matt Benolkin, a 2017 graduate of Finlandia’s International School of Business, was recognized by Cargill as the 2020 Sales Professional of the Year. Benolkin earned the award because of his consistent effort which increased new sales by $1.1 million in 2020. Benolkin was a Sports Management major and has worked at Cargill since graduating from Finlandia.

Finlandia staff member, Nata Borgen, and international business student, Santeri Seppinen, were recently featured as subjects of two short videos on Finns living in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The videos are promotional pieces for Finnzone and are part of Finnzone’s strategy for attracting Finnish companies to the Keweenaw.
