Wellness committee hosting Mont Ripley Discount Day on March 12

The Finlandia University Wellness Committee is proud to present the inaugural Mont Ripley Discount Day for students and employees of the university. This includes a $25 Day Pass (normally $35) and $15 Rental (normally $32-$38). Lessons will be made available courtesy of Cindy Cowell in TRiO.

Mid-summer festival of Juhannus set for June 23-25

A member of the Finnish Foreign Ministry staff in Washington, D.C. has fondly remembered her visit to Michigan’s Copper Country during FinnFest USA 2013 since the moment she departed from the U.P. nearly four years ago. So, when she had her choice of officials visits on which she could accompany Ambassador Kirsti Kauppi, she wasted no time in making her preference known.

Participants needed for capstone research survey

Individuals born between 1980 and 2004 are needed to help with a capstone research survey. Participants must live in houghton County now, and have lived here for at least 10 years. The survey will take approximately one hour. The topic is interracial dating/marriage assessment. It can be done in person, over the phone or on Skype.

Results will remain anonymous. Participants are wanted by March 25. To participate e-mail Hailee Johnson at hjohnson@finlandia.edu.

Aspiring artists invited to portfolio review session at Finlandia

Aspiring artists are invited to Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD) in March and April for portfolio review/open house sessions at the Jutila Center. A total of 12 sessions will take place, beginning March 10 and finishing up April 7.

Each session will start with the aspiring artists meeting with art and design faculty to get a feel for them as students and artists. The faculty will then look through the students’ portfolios to help offer individualized advice [...]

Nordic Film Series to feature film based in U.P.

The March installment of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center will feature some familiar faces, and some familiar scenery.

Finlandia honors 117 for academic achievement during fall semester

Finlandia University is proud to announce its Fall 2016 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 117 students earned honors, including 63 who earned Dean’s List honors for having a Grade Point Average of 3.75 or above.

Nursing student Nathan Meyette works on an IV during a clinical session. Meyette is one of 63 students to have earned a spot on the Dean’s List for having a GPA above 3.75 during the fall 2016 semester.

Opportunity knocked and Keith Arnold answered

Laying in his dorm room during the first week of school, this week’s Finlandia Fridays guest Keith Arnold could barely sleep. The relative quietness of his surrounding, compared to the freeways and hustle and bustle of his hometown of Detroit was almost all encompassing to the 18-year-old Finlandia University freshman. GoFundMe campaign for Old Main renovations starts today!

The Finlandia Alumni Board is pleased to announce the initiation of a crowdfunding effort to help renovate the Old Main building’s roof. The fundraiser begins today, February 23, 2017, at gofundme.com/oldmain. The GoFundMe campaign will remain open until the end of May, at which point we hope to have reached our fundraising goal of $45,000, the cost of installing a new roof for the historic Old Main building.
