Aspiring artists invited to portfolio review session at Finlandia

Aspiring artists are invited to Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD) in March and April for portfolio review/open house sessions at the Jutila Center. A total of 12 sessions will take place, beginning March 10 and finishing up April 7.

Each session will start with the aspiring artists meeting with art and design faculty to get a feel for them as students and artists. The faculty will then look through the students’ portfolios to help offer individualized advice for a student, and provide them the support they’ll need to enter their portfolio in competition.

After completing the portfolio review students will tour campus. This will include a look at the individualized studio space every Finlandia student receives (even as freshmen), a complete tour of each creative space inside of the Jutila Center and will conclude with a walk through of the university’s main campus, including Finlandia Hall where parents and students have the option of joining students for a meal. Those on tours will also meet with admissions and financial aid staff at the university.

The tours are being hosted in conjunction with the FinnU’s recent announcement of the $20,000 competitive scholarship the university will be awarding in early May. The portfolio review is not required for the competition, but it is suggested as it will help a student better understand what Finlandia’s faculty will be looking for during the competition. It will also provide an opportunity for a student to apply for admissions and work through the financial aid process, both of which must be completed prior to the April 21 application deadline for the $20,000 scholarship.

These events are open to anyone interested in becoming a full time art and design student at Finlandia University during the 2017-18 academic year. Aspiring artists are invited to bring a parent or other guest along for the session. There is no cost, and lunch or dinner at Finlandia Hall’s café is available.

$20,000 Brule Scholarship for those interested in art and design

To compete for the Brule Scholarship, a student must have a completed admission application on file and be accepted to Finlandia University by April 21, 2017. The winner will be announced following Portfolio Review Day on Saturday, May 6, 2017, and must be present to win.
