NCHA Offensive Player of the Week Sierra Meiners skates by to talk women’s hockey and nursing

Senior nursing student and women’s hockey captain, Sierra Meiners visited Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss the women’s hockey team and her final year in the nursing program. Meiners was named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association’s (NCHA) Offensive Player of the Week this past week. Finlandia delegation visits Beihai Art and Design Institute in China

Potential partnership between institutions being discussed

On November 10, 2017, President Dr. Philip Johnson, International School of Art & Design Dean Denise Vandeville, and Dr. Richard Gee, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, toured the studios and facilities of the Beihai Art and Design Institute, China. The visit to the school concluded a multi-day tour of the country provided by Beihai officials.

27th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition Kristin Pavelka: Kahvipaussi

Finlandia University Gallery will present the 27th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition featuring the work of ceramic artist Kristin Pavelka. Her exhibit, titled Kahvipaussi will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery. An opening reception for the public will take place at the gallery on Thursday, December 7th, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. with an artist talk beginning at 7:20 p.m.  The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Maki Library hosting pre-holiday book sale

Finlandia University’s Sulo & Aileen Maki Library is inviting the public to stop in this week for its pre-holiday book sale. The sale began Monday, November 27 and will continue until Saturday, December 2. The library’s book sale is available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Finlandia University announces In-State Transfer Tuition Pricing for Michigan and non-Michigan residents

Finlandia University announced today the implementation of “In-State Transfer Tuition Pricing,” available to Michigan and non-Michigan residents. This first-of-its-kind tuition reset helps establish FinnU as a transfer-friendly leader in the Midwest and beyond.

Beginning with the January 2018 semester, Finlandia will reset tuition to $12,594 per year or $6,297 per semester for students bringing in at least six transferable college credits. The tuition reset price is the median in-state tuition price for public, four-year institutions in the state of Michigan.

Tuukka Ylälahti and his mobile mentoring startup Mesensei come from Finland to Finlandia

Tuukka Ylälahti stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about his revolutionary new app Mesensei. Ylälahti is the co-founder of Mesensei, a startup company working on “mentorship programs in support of learning, entrepreneurship and social inclusion.” The program and Ylälahti have visited various universities in America to see how the program would do in the American market. With close ties to Finland, Finlandia seemed like the obvious choice to lay some ground work.
