Introducing the Embrace Your Sisu Competition

Enrollment officer Gini Gesler joined Olivia Myers on Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about Finlandia’s new scholarship competition designed to help people take a break from the challenges of today. The competition, named Embrace Your Sisu, embraces the idea of art therapy to channel one of the three key tenets of sisu: calm.

The competition consists of a poster participants can color using any medium of their choice. Once finished, participants can submit the poster and be entered to win one of two $1,000 scholarships. Those who do not win the scholarships will be entered into a raffle to win other prizes such as Finlandia swag and gift cards to local businesses.

“We want everyone to participate,” said Gesler. “Whether you’re interested in attending Finlandia, just a community member, or if you’re somebody that is just interested in participating. The idea is about coming together as a community, relaxing and getting through this [pandemic].”

Interested participants can request a hard copy or download a digital version of the poster at finlandia.edu/embrace. Two scholarships are available:

  1. The $1000 Critic’s Choice winner will be chosen by Finlandia International School of Art & Design faculty and staff.
  2. The People’s Choice winner will be chosen by those who vote for their favorite submission. Voting opens on November 13 and closes on February 1, 2021.

In order to qualify for the scholarships, submissions must be made by January 4, 2021. Winners will be announced on February 5, 2021. For full rules and eligibility, and to learn more and request your poster, visit finlandia.edu/embrace.
