Finlandia Alumni Board hosting Giving Day to raise money for textbooks

The Finlandia Alumni Board will host a Giving Day to celebrate everything Finlandia University on June 19-20. The day, which will begin on June 19 at 8 am and run until noon on June 20, will feature social media challenges, downloadable games, information on alumni volunteer opportunities, and a fundraiser to raise money for Textbook Awards for students this fall.

“Most of our college memories are full of good times, camaraderie, and those long study hours,” said FAB president, Monica Hill (‘76). “Many of us also remember the struggle to make ends meet. The Finlandia Alumni Board is eager to help shoulder some of the burden by distributing Textbook Awards that students can put toward the rising cost of their books.”

College textbook prices have risen exponentially over the years. CBS News reports that the textbook costs have risen four times faster than the rate of inflation over the past decade.

To get the day started, the Alumni Board has already pledged to match the first $2,000 donated.

Donations will be accepted throughout the day via the Finlandia website, Facebook page and Instagram stories. Donors can also call the Finlandia Advancement Office to make a donation or send a check payable to Finlandia University.
