The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) is hosting its annual Giving Day on Sept. 1 in an effort to raise $30,000 to assist the university in it’s Safe Open. Funds raised will go toward the cost of baseline testing for all students and employees, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary equipment to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on campus this fall.
“The opportunity to test the entire campus community is a meaningful way to position [...]
Finlandia’s Campus Ministry is asking for donations to send current students a Finals Week Care Package during their final exams at the end of the month. Campus Ministry has provided Finals Week Care Packages for students in the past, but, in an email to alumni and friends, Pastor Sarah Semmler-Smith highlights how meaningful they are this year in particular:
On Thursday March 12th, Finlandia University did something unprecedented in its history: we sent all our students home. The [...]
Finlandia University is excited to announce it’s 2019 Giving Tuesday. Over 115 donors helped raise $62,403.25 for student scholarships.
“We are beyond thrilled by the generosity of our donors and their continued support of Giving Tuesday,” Director of Marketing and Communications Olivia Myers said. “We set a lofty goal on the day and our donors stepped up to provide our students with scholarships for the next semester.”
The 2019 Giving Tuesday campaign is comparable to FinnU’s 2018 efforts, which raised [...]
Finlandia University has received one of its most significant endowment gifts to date from the estate of Onni and Dorothea Harju.
Like many other Finnish American men, Onni grew up on a farm with very humble beginnings. Through his lifetime of hard work and investment – which included growing Christmas trees on the Red Granite, Wisconsin farmland – Onni planted his strong Finnish roots by investing in the future.
Onni was born in Bessemer, Michigan in 1918, [...]
A light blue house on Quincy St., just past Finlandia University’s Old Main building, bears the name “Servant Leadership House.” The house has been known by other names and had other purposes in the history of the university, but since 2014 it has been a residence for female students who desire to grow as servant leaders. Put simply, servant leaders focus primarily on influencing their communities [...]
Finlandia University hopes to raise $75,000 for student scholarships on Giving Tuesday which takes place on December 3. Finlandia donors can double their gifts this Giving Tuesday, as the university will again have a matching incentive. Board of Trustees President Julie Badel has agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar that are raised, up to $20,000, for the second year in a row.
“We saw last year how much of an impact Julie’s match made and [...]
In February of 2019, the Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) determined it wanted to give back to current students in a meaningful way. The FAB, led by president Monica Hill (’76), ultimately decided to raise funds to support a Textbook Award, to be given out in the form of a gift certificate to North Wind Books to help offset the rising cost of textbooks. The best way to do this? Set up Finlandia’s first Giving Day.
Giving Day is a day to celebrate all things Finlandia and show the world the opportunities afforded to alumni. Hosted by the Finlandia Alumni Board, it is a day to encourage alumni and students to become engaged in a number of different ways. From sharing Lion Pride on social media to completing the Giving Day crossword while enjoying morning coffee to helping students afford textbooks next semester, join us this June 19 at 8 a.m. until June 20 [...]
The Finlandia Alumni Board will host a Giving Day to celebrate everything Finlandia University on June 19-20. The day, which will begin on June 19 at 8 am and run until noon on June 20, will feature social media challenges, downloadable games, information on alumni volunteer opportunities, and a fundraiser to raise money for Textbook Awards for students this fall.
“Most of our college memories are full of good times, camaraderie, and those long study hours,” said FAB [...]
