“I am deeply saddened to announce that due to a combination of demographic changes, with fewer high school graduates available, a steep decrease in interest in going to college among those graduates, and an unbearable debt load, Finlandia’s Board of Trustees met and [...]

Finlandia business students form investment laboratory

There’s a new investment club on the Finlandia campus. In the fall of 2021, a group of accounting students formed the Finlandia Multi-Variate Screening and Portfolio Construction Data Analytics Lab, or as it is more commonly known, the Finlandia Investment Lab (FIL).  According to founding member Anders Saarela, “While I was working in the [Finlandia] business office this summer as an accountant work study student, [accounting professor] Laura Sieders asked if I would be interested in forming an [...]

Maki Library offers more than books for students

The following is a campus-wide message from President Philip Johnson regarding Finlandia’s Covid-19 Safe Open Plan response.

Dear Finlandia Community,

As shared with you last week, we can be very encouraged by our efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on our campus and in our community. Very recently, however, we have seen the number of positive COVID-19 cases in our neighboring communities rise sharply.  This concerns us all.

Finlandia Prepares for Fall 2020

Students are making their way back to Finlandia’s campus for the Fall 2020 semester. As the university prepares to welcome approximately 400 students, new protocols and practices are being enforced to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on campus and in the Keweenaw community.

“We have had a task force meeting regularly since May to discuss, evaluate and implement new physical changes to campus, policies, and procedures,” said Dean of Students Erin Barnett.  “Because of our size, we have [...]
