Maki Library offers more than books for students

March 5, 2021

It’s a place most students will visit more than once in their college career – the library. While Finlandia’s Maki Library houses thousands of books and provides a great space to study, there’s more than meets the eye. Assistant Librarian Dana Pakulski stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to do a deeper dive into what the Maki Library has to offer students.

“A lot of public libraries have programming and build a community, and that has become a huge focus for us here at the library,” said Pakulski. “We want a community with our students and to bring them together but at the same time offer social distance things because we live in the time of Covid.”

Pakulski has been putting together free craft and activity kits students can take and work on in their dorm room. She’s also been focused on highlighting the more ‘fun’ options students can check-out such as audiobooks, DVDs and other books that students may want to read in their free time.

“It shows the students that we are more than just the place to study and come and print things and use the computers,” said Pakulski. “We care about them and that’s really important for us.”

Pakulski also talked about upcoming events and activities that she hopes to launch in the fall including Movies at the Library and a Short Story Club.
