Faculty encouraged to nominate students for 2020 honors, awards and scholarships

The Honors and Awards Banquet is upon us and all faculty are invited to nominate deserving students for scholarship and awards. The event is dependent upon faculty nominations so please take a few minutes to nominate students you believe to be good candidates by March 11. Below is information on all five scholarships and a link to the submissions form.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Virginia Fund Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Virginia Fund Scholarship, which is open to all freshman women at Finlandia University. The scholarship, typically $250-500 is awarded based on academic achievement and contribution to campus life. Applications will be reviewed by the Academic Achievement Committee and the winner will be announced at the Honors and Awards Banquet on Friday, April 17.  The Virginia Fund Scholarship will be applied to the 2020-21 academic year. Applications Open for Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA between 3.00 to 3.49 may be eligible for the Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing. Application deadline for the scholarship is Wednesday, March 11.

The amount of scholarships and money awarded will depend on the quantity and quality of applications. Students who want to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year, and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.

Michigan Tuition Grant Reinstated, Increased by State Legislature

Students across the state of Michigan can finally breathe easier now that the Michigan Tuition Grant has been reinstated. 

Governor Whitmer signed the supplemental state budget on December 20 which included the reinstatement of the Michigan Tuition Grant. Giving Tuesday Brings in Over $62,000 for Student Scholarships

Finlandia University is excited to announce it’s 2019 Giving Tuesday. Over 115 donors helped raise $62,403.25 for student scholarships.

Donors Can Double their Gift for FinnU Student Scholarships on Giving Tuesday

Finlandia University hopes to raise $75,000 for student scholarships on Giving Tuesday which takes place on December 3. Finlandia donors can double their gifts this Giving Tuesday, as the university will again have a matching incentive. Board of Trustees President Julie Badel has agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar that are raised, up to $20,000, for the second year in a row.
